90 years young

Well we are back from Burnham on Sea after a lovely visit to see Mum for her birthday.

She had a lovely day. It started with a Mass being said in her church in thanksgiving for her birthday and then we went to her home. Barry, my brothers friend from seminary, was already there and brought her a bunch of flowers from Mike and Liz. Mums house was like a flower shop with all the flowers from her friends and neighbours. Amongst other things we got her a cake which she cut while we had a cup oh tea.

Mum Cutting Her Cake

We got her a new microwave oven and slow cooker as hers had called it a day. We felt that this was a present that would last and she would get a lot of use from them.

Magie and I stayed for a few days doing the odd jobs and shopping for her while we were there before starting on the 2 day journey back to the west coast of Ireland. a journey we have done several times so that we could see her while we can. Really out of  an 8 day break 4 days were taken up in travel. It could have been much less if Ryanair did not have a seasonal service to Bristol and the cost of hire cars being so prohibitive (total costs taking a boat with our own car about the same ≈ £ 250.00)

One good thing was that Mum has agreed to come and stay in May when it’s warmer I shall look forward to that. We will fly over to Bristol, hire a car and stay overnight in Burnham, collect Mum take her to Brisol fly to Knock and take her to our home and do the reverse when she feels that she wants the go back.
